Freestyle Coaching Clinic Coming to You

Does your freestyle need a bit of a tune up? Does it need a complete overhaul?

We will be running a freestyle clinic during the Monday swim session over 4 weeks. The clinic is FREE. The sessions will take the entire 1 hour and will be comprehensive and progressive. The weeks are not consecutive though; the first week is 19th March and weeks 2 to 4 are 9th, 16th and 23rd April.

Here is how the clinic will look:

Week 1 (19th March). This first session covers the fundamentals of body positioning and kick
Week 2 (9th April). Session 2 involves learning body rotation (why and how). How arms should recover over the water will be covered too.
Week 3 (16th April). In session 3 we discover how to pull more efficiently under the water. Better pulling will provide more power and speed. That's enough for one session.
Week 4 (23rd April). This is the final session and it's about breathing and timing, the 2 things many swimmers really struggle with.

There will be a sign up sheet at the pool Monday and Wednesday. Please put your name on it if you are coming to the clinic. This will greatly assist us to plan how many lanes we need and how to shuffle the remaining lanes on these nights.

Gentle Reminder

Hi folks. Just a gentle reminder of our relay challenge on Wednesday. It will be a fun challenge but you will also get to swim more than the usual number of lengths for a relay night and you should be pretty tired when you are done, unless you didn't swim hard enough.

So be there, or miss out on the fun.

Club Night 7th March - Chocolate Fish Relay Challenge

And now for something a little different..............

For club night this coming Wednesday we are having a continuous relay challenge. There is no need to RSVP for this. Anyone who wishes to take part can show up on the night at the usual time of 7pm and we will shuffle you into teams.

So we don't have to do too much of a briefing on the night, here is a quick rundown of how it will work.

It goes like this. Swimmers will be divided into teams as evenly as possible. There will be 2 or 3 races depending on how many swimmers we have taking part. The duration of each race will also be determined by the size of the teams but races are expected to be between 8 minutes and 12 minutes duration.

Swimmers in each team are to swim in rotation (staying in order) and will swim 50m each per rotation. For example, team A is made up of Fred, Bob and Max. Fred swims 50m then Bob then Max and then they go around again and again until told to stop. They must stay in order. When the whistle blows to indicate the end of the allotted time, the swimmer must stop and stay on the spot so the scorer can estimate their metres. The scorer will let the last swimmer know when they can get out.

The team completing the most metres in the allotted time is the winning team of that relay.

Oky doky. That's pretty simple. Hopefully you can swim quite a few lengths and go home feeling shattered.

Sea Swim and BBQ, Sunday 25th February

Hi all
This Sunday we're having our annual Sea Swim and BBQ.
Eastern Beach, northern end
4:45 pm Briefing for the swim
5:00 pm Swim
6:00 pm Eating!
If you're swimming, please be ready in time for the briefing, as we're pushing the limit for the tide.

All the family is welcome. The club will provide sausages, bread & condiments, and we ask that you bring a plate of something to go with it (sweet or savoury).
There's good parking in Rogers Park (first left after the roundabout as you approach Eastern Beach).

We've ordered nice weather, so there'll be no need to postpone again. However, if the wind is unfavourable we'll move to our back-up location (Little Bucklands Beach southern end). Watch your emails on Sunday morning.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Best regards

BBQ & Sea Swim Postponted

Hi all

It's clear that the weather will not let us enjoy a BBQ tomorrow, so the committee has decided to postpone it.

Our back-up date is in two weeks, on Sunday 25th February.

Let's hope we have better luck next time.

Best regards
