Xmas Brunch - Change of venue

Our Xmas Brunch will now be at Columbus Coffee on Pakuranga Road (between Sir Lloyd Drive and Pigeon Mountain Road, next to Carls Junior).

Despite our best laid plans the Homestead Cafe can't take us all. See you on Sunday at Columbus.

Labour Weekend Training

This weekend is Labour Weekend and Monday 28th October is a public holiday. We are able to swim on Sunday, but not Monday.

Sunday 27th Oct - training as usual.

Monday 28th Oct - no training.

Swim fees - an alternative

Hi all

Your committee has been looking for ways to make it easier for our members to pay their swim so we don't have so many forget. You now have two ways of paying: the existing 10-swim cards or by monthly direct credit to our bank account.

Monthly Payment Option

• Monthly payment: $26 (= $312 annually.)
• Direct credit to South City Masters on the 1st of every month, starting November.
• The amount has been calculated to cover our pool hire costs with the average attendance we get at training. (Most swim a bit more than twice a week, so those who regularly swim more will pay less than the current $3 per swim.)
• Payments continue over breaks from swimming, e.g. holidays & sickness. Think of it as an annual fee, paid monthly.
• Choose this option by starting your monthly payments – we’ll see your payment in our account.

10-swim Card Option

• Direct credit $30 per card to South City Masters.
• Ask a committee member for a card(s).
• Every time you swim, mark one swim off your card.

Other Details

• Race nights will now require a swim fee. It’s too hard to account for when some are paying monthly. We still hire the pool and provide either programmes or organise relays.

Background
Currently we pay our swim fees by purchasing a 10-swim card and marking off one swim each time you swim. However, we are finding that the number of cards sold falls well short of the number of swimmers at training. Clearly our memories are not as good as we had hoped.
We recognise that one of the conveniences we offer is that you need only pay for the swimming you do. For that reason the existing system of 10-swim cards will still work for those not choosing the monthly payment system.

Hear Ye Hear Ye

There will be NO club night on Wednesday 7th August. Lapo can't make it and I don't feel like racing against myself, timekeeping myself, recording my own stuff, applauding my own efforts yada yada.

I've printed out a training programme (an oldy but a goody) so there will be general training across all lanes. Rain, hail and snow shouldn't stop you coming.

BUT, since it is normally a club night there will be no charge this Wednesday so you don't need to mark your card. Nice one!

SCM Annual Awards Dinner

Hi All. We are having our Annual Awards Dinner on Saturday 27th July.

Where?  Thai Flame, 333 Ti Rakau Drive (opposite Bunnings).
What time? Arrive at 6.30pm and the banquet appears at 7pm.
Who? Members and their partners (no children please).

Price? Members $20, Partners $35.

– A glass of wine is included (Fully Licensed & BYO)

Three Reminders

1. Your subs are now due for the 2019/20 season. Please pay your $60 into the usual account.

2. The pool will be closed for annual maintenance from Monday 22nd July to Sunday 28th July (inclusive). Training recommences on 29th July.

 3. Please remember to mark your concession card and date it every single time you swim at Masters.

Save the date, and other notices

Save the Date!!!

Go on do it! Why? It's our annual Awards and mid-winter dinner coming up, that's why.
The date you need to save is Saturday 27th July. So write it in your diary and put a note on your fridge but most importantly DON'T BOOK ANYTHING ELSE for that evening.

We are returning to the Thai Flame this year for our dinner. More information to come about time, cost and the menu a little bit closer to the date.

Annual Subscription is Due

Yes, it has been a year already since you last paid. It is due by 1st July so that is only 2 weeks away (roughly speaking). Please pay $60 into the club bank account, the same account into which you pay your $30 for your concession cards. The club will then pay your $60 to NZ Masters Swimming on your behalf.

Speaking of Concession Cards

We know it's hard but......please remember to mark your card each time you swim and note the date of your swim (helps you remember if you did it or not) and pay for each card in a timely manner.

Club Night this Wednesday (1st May)

Remember there is club night this coming Wednesday and this could be your last chance for a bit of race practice ahead of the Auckland SC Champs on 18th May.

If you've not been to a pool meet before, the Auckland SC Champs are a great introduction. This meet is fairly low key, only takes half a day out of your weekend and they put on a yummy spread afterwards.

Club Sea Swim Results & Club Night Results

These have been a long time coming haven't they? I've been slacking off, so apologies if you have been on the edge of your seat waiting for these.

The weather gods did their thing for our club sea swim and bbq and it was a glorious afternoon and evening. 14 Swimmers enjoyed their swim and there was a great turnout for the bbq; so great in fact that sausages were in short supply. Just as well there was lots of other yummy stuff so thanks to all the cooks for the magnificent spread.

Results for the handicapped swim were as follows:
Women's 2km swim won by Janine Ibbs
Men's 2km swim won by Lapo Nustrini
Men's 2km swim won by Mike Wansink

Congratulations to our winners.

There was also a club night in March with an enthusiastic band of swimmers zooming up and down. There was even a record broken - well done Liz! Results are on the blog tabs, right where you would expect them to be.

Auckland Short Course Swim Champs, held by Roskill Masters at Cameron Pool, is coming up in May. More on that later - but start getting your race gear out of storage.
